When the owner of www.HusseinHanging.com started up his blog chronicling the trial and hanging process of ousted Iraqi leader Saddam Hussein, little did he know what he would be getting himself into. Email threats, DDOS attacks, and violent commentary became somewhat of a common occurrence. Controversial website HusseinHanging.com has been relaunched - and is missing most of what made it an interesting site.

The website contained articles from a number of news sources (all of which display their full copyright information and URL of originating website), as well as the owner’s personal commentary on the matter.

Things took a rather stiff turn for the website as reports came in that the site was receiving a lot of traffic from locations in the Middle East. Violent emails followed and comments containing abusive language were left by a number of anonymous visitors. The website reported going through a DDOS attack (Distributed Denial of Service) and mentioned that the owner was receiving phone calls from unknown locations.

So, why all the hostility for simply helping to cover a current media event?

It seems that some of the comments made by the owner may have offended certain members of certain ‘ideals’. These comments were of a criticizing nature and were often accompanied by cartoons.

Since coming under fire for sharing news coupled with rather left-wing opinions, the website has undergone a complete ‘cleansing’ effort in order to remove all offending material. The owner has made assurances that the website will contain only information which has otherwise been previously published (on other news websites).

As it stands today, the website continues with the task of creating a non-biased archive of information relating to the hanging of Saddam Hussein. The long-term goal is for students or interested parties some fifty years from now to be able to view the website, and glean an understanding not just of Hussein and the Hanging, but of the way the whole legal system works in the United States during this era.
